What is Wrong with Penelope Tate? To expose a monster, she has to pretend she isn't one

Penelope Tate knew she was different by the time she hit kindergarten. In a world where everyone is normal, being born a sociopath is a sin. 

Boys knew to leave her alone or she would stab them with her pencil. Girls avoided her because she was nothing like them. Even her parents didn’t know what to do with her. Society functioned on a set of rules Penelope didn’t understand. And she would spend her whole life trying to figure them out. 

After moving, she gets another chance to be normal, and the only way to blend in at Avalanche Peak High School is to keep her distance. It works until she accidentally does something nice for someone else. And makes a friend. 

But not everyone is fooled by her persona. 

Becoming Valedictorian of Avalanche Peak High School is the only way she can prove she is normal, but a certain boy stands in her way. Not to mention her estranged father who suspects she has ulterior motives.  

Can Penelope hold on to her friends and stay true to herself? Or is she always destined to be the neighborhood sociopath?
